Volunteers spend a Saturday once a month building and repairing homes in the Pittsburgh area. Skilled and unskilled workers are needed. Work is usually done on the third saturday of each month. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with very low income families who are in need of decent, affordable housing. "Sweat equity," unpaid labor that Partner Families invest, is a basic requirement in all affiliates. Pittsburgh Habitat for Humanity families complete 500 hours working on houses as part of the requirement for them to obtain a no-interest, no-profit mortgage. A prospective Partner Family puts in 50 hours working with other families and volunteers on houses before beginning work on their own homes. The mortgage payments from Partner Families are used to build more homes through our "Revolving Fund for Humanity." Work dates are
the third Saturday of each month. |
