The United Methodist Church in the United States is organized into over 100 geographically defined areas called conferences. In each conference are several districts that are also geographically defined. Ingomar is one of 51 member churches in the Pittsburgh District and one of 902 member churches in the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church. Lay persons from each church and clergy meet annually at the Annual Conference.
Rev. Dr. Martha Orphe, our past Pittsburgh District Superintendant, describes the district accurately:
"We are very diverse in our churches, our people, our styles of worship, and offerings of community ministries. Statistics show that we are about 21,000 members spread throughout these urban and suburban areas.
Some of our churches ministries and buildings are as old as 175 years while still others are only two years old. We are continuously seeking ways to meet the needs of people.
Our ministries, although geographically located in greater Pittsburgh, extend worldwide in scope. We are a global church connecting the world together. We have the common mission of making disciples for Jesus Christ as we live out that goal in a variety of ways."
